Google Chromecast may be on its way to become one of the most popular home entertainment devices of the upcoming holiday season.
TechCrunch reports Google’s latest software update includes the addition of family-friendly games. New Chromecast apps will allow you to use your smartphone as a controller and hook up a game onto you TV.
The family-friendly games include Wheel of Fortune, Monopoly Dash, Scrabble Blitz, Connect Four Quads and Simon Swipe. The apps are compatible with both iOS and Android operating systems on tablets and smartphones.
“There's no hassle or expense with extra controllers. Anyone with a phone or tablet can join in on any of these games, so download these apps from the Play Store or App Store so all your family and friends can shake it, show off their smarts or just play,” Google stated in a blog post.
If you want to get your kids up and moving, “Just Dance” has come out with a mobile version of the title “Just Dance Now.” Chromcast users will be able to hold their smartphone and the device will track the users movements.
What also makes Google Chromecast is the price. For just $35, users will have access to many apps, including two free months of Hulu Plus and 90 days of Google Play All Access Music. Google has also added Starz and a Showtime app for Chromecast users.
“Nothing says winter like a TV binge on a cold, gray day,” Google wrote in its blog. “With Showtime Anytime you can catch up on past and current seasons of the network’s original series including Homeland and The Affair. With Starz Play, get your tartan on with the first season of Outlander, or have a marathon of Friday night flicks.”
