An old comedy sketch by Bill Cosby is coming back to haunt him. On Tuesday (Nov. 18) audio leaked of the "The Cosby Show" star making jokes about drugging women. In the past, Cosby has been accused of sexual assault or rape by at least 13 women.
The allegations resurfaced last month when comedian Hannibal Buress attacked the 77-year-old for being "a rapist." Shortly after Buress' comments, Barbara Bowman started to share her story again alleging that the actor drugged and sexually assaulted her. In an op-ed piece for the Washington Post, she claims that after Cosby offered her a drink she started to feel ill.
According to the Washington Post, other women - Tamara Green, Andrea Constand and now Joan Tarshis - have also made similar claims that they were drugged and then sexually assaulted by Cosby. In the video that surfaced online, the actor recounted a time when he was 13-years-old and a friend told him about an aphrodisiac called Spanish Fly.
"From then on, anything you see a girl, 'Wish I had some Spanish fly,'" he said in the audio. "Go to a party, see five girls standing alone. Boy, if I had a whole jug of Spanish fly I'd light that corner up over there."
The clip was part of Cosby's 1969 album "It's True, It's True!" The Washington Post also points out that Tarshis claims Cosby drugged and raped her that same year. According to WebMD, Spanish Fly is a "love drug" but is extremely dangerous. It does cause an increase in sexual arousal but is also a poison that burns the mouth and throat and can cause urinary infections and, in some cases, can lead to death.
Cosby has not responded to any of allegations but his lawyer issued a statement, reading:
"Over the last several weeks, decade-old, discredited allegations against Mr. Cosby have resurfaced. The fact that they are being repeated does not make them true. Mr. Cosby does not intend to dignify these allegations with any comment. He would like to thank his fans for the outpouring of support and assure them that, at age 77, he is doing his best work."
