Robert Kirkman is done pulling our leg about Daryl Dixon's (Norman Reedus) sexuality on "The Walking Dead." The creator of the zombie series teased fans back in August saying that the character being gay was "discussed" but now he's giving a solid answer.
According to E! News, Kirkman was on the "Talking Dead" following the show's (shocking) midseason finale on Sunday (Nov. 30) and revealed that Daryl is without a doubt straight.
"We play Daryl Dixon as being somewhat asexual on the show," he said. "He's a very introverted character and I think that's some of his appeal. I do have to clear something up, though: in the letter column of the comic book that I do, I mentioned that there was a possibility early on about making Daryl Dixon's character gay."
"It caused quite a hubbub online and I just wanted to clarify that the possibility is there and that I would have been fine with it, the network would have been fine with it, but we ultimately didn't do that," Kirkman continued. "I can make it official: Daryl Dixon is straight."
So does that mean fans will see a little romance between Daryl and Carol (Melissa McBride) in the second half of Season 5? So far, the character hasn't had any romantic relationships on the show. While on the "Talking Dead" Kirkman also revealed some exciting information and said that a "very prominent gay character from the comics" will be introduced when the series returns.
That sounds like Jose, who is gay in the comics, could be joining the cast. Jose meets Rick Grimes and the others at the Alexandria Safe Zone. Another gay character in the comics, also at Alexandria, is Aaron, who was in a relationship with a man named Eric.
