More details are emerging surrounding the tragic death of actress Misty Upham. According to the King's County medical examiner's office, Upham died of blunt-force trauma to her head and torso. The 32-year-old was found dead in a ravine outside of Seattle 11 days after her family reported her missing.
According to People magazine, the manner of her death has still not been determined and police believe her injuries are the result of a fall. They do not think foul play was involved. The medical examiner's office also noted that Upham died the same day her family reported her missing on Oct. 5.
Previously, it was reported that Upham had been suicidal around the time she went missing but her family does not believe the actress killed herself. There's been a lot of strife between the Upham family and the Auburn Police Department.
According to US Weekly, Commander Steve Stocker told an NBC outlet that detectives on the case "did everything we could" but her family has spoken out against authorities saying they were uncooperative when she went missing.
"I really think the police could've been more proactive," her father Charles Upham told US.
He claims Stocker refused to change his daughter's status to "endangered" after she disappeared. Charles told the magazine he believes they could have saved her "or at the very least had an open casket" if police would have acted sooner.
"We pleaded with them, begged with them," Charles added.
Shortly after the death, actress Juliette Lewis tweeted that she did not believe it was a suicide and her "August: Osage County" costar had confessed that she was afraid of local police.
"Misty told me about horrible violence she suffered on NA reservations," Lewis posted. "She felt she could be murdered! Bcu she was vocal #ThisISNOTaSUICIDE."
Her father said the last time police picked the actress up to take her to the hospital she was "ridiculed, taunted, and harassed."
The Auburn police released a statement to US denying the allegations.
"There have been no mistreatment complaints... from Ms. Upham, her family, MultiCare Auburn Medical Center, King County Sheriff's Office, Muckleshoot Indian Tribe, or elected officials at the City of Auburn," the department said.
