Bill Cosby's daughter, Evin Cosby, is speaking out for the first time to defend her father against rape allegations. Over the past several months, the 77-year-old actor has been accused of drugging and/or raping several women.
The most recent alleged victim to come forward was supermodel Beverly Johnson, who wrote in an op-ed for Vanity Fair that Cosby allegedly drugged her during a meeting at his house. According to Access Hollywood, Evin released a statement defending her father, writing: "He is the FATHER you thought you knew. The Cosby Show was my today's tv reality show. Thank you. That's all I would like to say :)."
The 38-year-old has also been commenting on the accusations via her Facebook page and supported her mother, Camille Cosby, who released a statement on Monday.
"Love my mom," Evin wrote on Facebook and included a screen shot of her mother's statement.
The man I met and fell in love with, and whom I continue to love, is the man you all knew through his work, she said. He is a kind man, a generous man, a funny man, and a wonderful husband, father and friend. He is the man you thought you knew.
A different man has been portrayed in the media over the last two months. It is the portrait of a man I do not know. It is also a portrait painted by individuals and organizations in the media have given a pass. There appear to be no vetting of my husband's accusers before stories are published or aired. An accusation is published, and immediately goes viral."
None of us will ever want to be in the position of attacking a victim. But the question should be asked- who is the victim?
Evin also thanked people for supporting her family during this time.
"I would like to thank EVERYONE that has been sharing, voicing and putting their beautiful positive energy out there for me and my family. There will always be jealous, vengeful and crazy people out there to break anyone down. Everyday we wake up and appreciate the love and support from everyone. There's more positive in life then we think. It's the BS that can be overwhelming. The challenges in life can only make us stronger. The ones that are angry can't live as easy as the ones that can love, RESPECT and not to find the easy way out by making FALSE accusations."
