Chris Rock's divorce to Malaak Compton-Rock is reportedly getting messy, sources told Page Six. The couple, who has been married for 19 years, announced their split on Sunday (Dec. 28) releasing separate statements.
Even though the two are playing nice in public, sources revealed that the split is starting to get contentious. Reportedly, Compton wants sole custody of their two daughters, 12-year-old Lola Simone and 10-year-old Zahra Savannah. She is also supposedly trying to keep the actor from seeing the young girls.
According to Page Six, Rock is seeking joint legal and physical custody of their children.
"He lives for his children," the source said. "They come first. When he was doing a publicity tour for 'Top Five,' he made it clear it had to be scheduled around being able to take his daughters to school and pick them up."
There were rumors that Rock had already moved on and was dating his "Top Five" costar Rosario Dawson. Sources told gossip site Media Take Out that the actor and his soon-to-be ex-wife have been living separately for almost two years and Rock is ready to go public with his new romance.
"They didn't want to announce it while their movie 'Top Five' was still being released- caused they didn't want people thinking that Rosario is some type of home wrecker. She's not, Chris hasn't been with his wife in about two years."
"They got together while making 'Top Five'... but kept it quiet," the source added. "Now I think Chris filed the papers on Malaak because he wants to go public with it."
While the split may have come as a surprise to the public, sources close to Compton and Rock told People magazine that everyone saw it coming.
"This was a long time coming. Chris has known it wasn't salvageable for a while. He was the one to file because he knew it was time to just move forward already," the source said.
According to Page Six, the pair did have a prenup but "since it was created so many years ago [it] may have expired."
