It's officially over. Broadway star Idina Menzel and actor Taye Diggs have ended their marriage after announcing their separation a little more than a year ago. According to E! Online, legal documents revealed that Diggs and Menzel finalized their divorce on Dec. 3 at a New York City court.
The couple, who married in 2003 after meeting on the Broadway set of "Rent" in the mid-'90s, announced they were taking time apart from each other in December of 2013. They have one child together, a son named Walker Nathaniel. According to E!, the "Best Man" actor filed a divorce petition in November. The details of the divorce have not been revealed.
Last June, Diggs spoke about the split, telling Redbook magazine that they were still trying to work things out with co-parenting and moving on with their lives.
"I'd be lying if I said there weren't times when I thought, Oh man, people are going to trip out [if we split]. There weren't a lot of couples like us in the theater community - and I know there aren't a lot of performers as talented as she is... and then you have the whole mixed [race] thing," Diggs said. "It was easy for people to root for us. Right now, we're still trying to figure out a lot of stuff because we're on different coasts and our son is getting older."
Both Diggs and Menzel appeared in the movie adaption of "Rent" in 2005, reprising their roles as Benny and Maureen. The 43-year-old actor can now be seen on TNT's "Murder in the First," while Menzel has received praise for her role as Queen Elsa in Disney's "Frozen."
