Miami Heat star Chris Bosh reportedly could miss the rest of the season because of a blood clot in his lung. Meanwhile, the agent for Goran Dragic, whom Miami traded for on Thursday, explained why his client wants to stay in South Beach for the long haul.
The Heat drastically reshaped their roster in the hour leading up to Thursday's trade deadline. While the addition of Dragic has Heat fans excited for a possible deep run in the Eastern Conference playoffs, the team may have to do it without a key piece. The Miami Herald is reporting Bosh could miss the remainder of the season due to what doctors believe might be a blood clot in his lung.
"Bosh was admitted to a Miami-area hospital Thursday after meeting with a doctor. The Heat's power forward underwent initial tests that proved inconclusive, according to the Heat. The fear is that Bosh could have blood clots on his lungs," Joseph Goodman of The Herald wrote Friday. "If there is a pulmonary embolus, or multiple clots, then Bosh would be out for the remainder of the season, and possibly longer, while being treated with blood thinners for pulmonary embolism.".
While the long-term outlook for Bosh is positive, a blood clot is typically a season-ending condition. He reportedly is still hospitalized and receiving blood-thinner medication; it's uncertain if he will need to undergo surgery.
Losing Bosh for the season would certainly temper fans' expectations, which skyrocketed after Miami acquired Dragic on Thursday from the Phoenix Suns. Some NBA analysts, such as TNT's Charles Barkley and NBA TV's Isaiah Thomas, indicated Dragic instantly makes the Heat a contender in the watered-down East. Beyond making a playoff run this season, one of Dragic's agents indicated to The Herald his client is happy to be in Miami and will likely stay long-term, which would go a long way toward keeping the Heat perennial playoff contenders.
Miami acquired Dragic and his brother, Zoran, in a huge three-team trade with Phoenix and the New Orleans Pelicans. Miami sent two future first-round picks and Danny Granger to Phoenix, and Norris Cole, Justin Hamilton and Shawne Williams were sent to New Orleans. The deal also included the Pelicans shipped John Salmons to Phoenix.
