Model and media mogul Tyra Banks has joined fellow celebrity investor Ashton Kutcher in backing The Hunt, an online shopping start-up, according to Women's Wear Daily.
Made for social media driven shoppers, The Hunt builds an online community where users can post outfits and items they find on sites like Pinterest, Instagram and Tumblr, in hopes of another user providing a link to purchase the item—appropriately ending "the hunt."
"It truly sucks to discover a great style item but not be able to find and buy it," Banks told WWD. "The Hunt solves that fashion dilemma in a fun and innovative way. What I love about The Hunt is that women can help other women find their perfect outfit [head-to-toe]
"I am excited to be part of this new approach to collective retail and styling," she said.
While the amount of Banks' investment has not been revealed, The Hunt CEO Tim Weingarten told TechCrunch the cash will go towards improving the new site's functionality and engagement with users. Kutcher provided the site, which boasts 300,000 registered users and 250,000 hunt submissions, with $700,000 back in April, according to TechCrunch.
Weingarten explained that Kutcher understood how The Hunt was "very different from all other curation sites and all other fashion tech startups."
"And once you get one or two of these [celebs] in, the word spreads," he said.
Banks, who has reportedly expressed interest in backing start-up tech companies in the past, recently formed Fierce Capital, LLC, an investment branch for her ultra-successful Tyra Banks Company.
The business-saavy star also received a degree from the Harvard Business School after completing the Ivy League school's executive education program for business owners and entrepreneurs.
She is the first female fashionista to back The Hunt.
