Karen Gillan, the British actress most well known for playing the first companion to the eleventh Doctor on the hit BBC science fiction series "Doctor Who" debuted a new, rather shocking, look at the Marvel Comic-Con panel. Gillan has shed her trademark ginger red-head.
The 25-year-old actress sat on the panel to discuss her role in the upcoming Marvel film "Guardians of the Galaxy" where she plays the villainous space pirate, Nebula. Gillan took the stage sporting a convincing red wig that she eventually took off and threw into the crowd.
The panel was moderated by Chris Hardwick who eventually asked Gillan "Isn't Nebula bald?" to which Gillan quickly responded: "Yes, she is. And I might have done something a little bit crazy," according to New York Daily News, that's when the actress took off her wig and debuted her new bald headed look. She threw the wig into the crowd before, in a moment of clarity, realized she needed the wig back.
"You do NOT want to give your wig to people at Comic-Con" Hardwick joked.
The actress fooled everyone the day prior on the panel for season three of the television comedy NTSF:SD:SUV before unveiling her bald head on the Marvel panel the following day. She wasn't alone in sporting a new look, although she was the most surprising. The Doctor Who star was joined by other "Guardians" actors Michael Rooker, who will play Yondu; Dave Bautista, who will play Drax the Destroyer and Djimon Hounsou, who will play Korath also showed up at the "Guardians of the Galaxy" panel with hairless heads.
The actress is making big moves now that her role as the Doctor's companion has ended. In addition to starring in "Guardians" the actress will be in the upcoming supernatural thriller "Oculus" as well as the British romantic comedy "Not Another Happy Ending."
Meanwhile, her Doctor Who co-star, and Eleventh-Doctor, Matt Smith is gearing up to leave the show after Christmas.
