Aaron Hernandez's girlfriend, Shayanna Jenkins, watched in court on Wednesday as the ex-NFL star appeared for a probable cause hearing. At the conclusion of the hearing, Hernandez mouthed, "I Love you" to Jenkins before he exited the court room.
Hernandez appeared in court unshaven and wearing a suit. He stood beside the bailiff as the prosecutors asked for a 30-day continuance, which his attorney objected to.
The prosecution admitted it needed more time to prove its probable cause burden to a grand jury, which is still considering the evidence. Hernandez's attorney, James Sultan, contended that a delay was unfair to his client, who has been in jail since June 27.
The judge ultimately granted the prosecution's motion and scheduled the probable cause hearing for August 22, 2013. The Commonwealth anticipates being ready to proceed within 30 days.
As Hernandez was being led out of the court room, he looked across the room at his fiancée and twice mouthed, "I love you." Cameras caught her leaving the court room, appearing shaken but composed.
Jenkins hasn't been seen in public in weeks. For more information about Jenkins visit here.
Hernandez is facing one first-degree murder charge and five gun-related charges in the shooting death of Odin Lloyd. The commonwealth contends Hernandez orchestrated and then executed the murder of Lloyd.
Hernandez has pleaded not guilty.
