Following a report by The Hollywood Reporter, Beyoncé is fighting back against rumors that the release of her fifth studio album is being seriously delayed.
THR reported this week that the R&B queen was in the process of choosing between 50 different tracks for the album, but ultimately decided to dismiss them all and start over again. Sources reportedly told the publication that Beyoncé was unhappy and still trying to decide on a direction for the album.
Also reportedly unpleased is Bey's record label, Columbia, which was hoping for an album release to compete with Katy Perry and Lady Gaga's upcoming projects.
"Beyoncé has had some of the biggest hits of our format, and we're ready for the next," Tom Poleman, president of national programming platforms at media giant Clear Channel said. "Anticipation is high and expectations are too."
Despite the reports, Beyoncé's team is denying the rumors. Her rep told E! News the new record never had a release date in the first place and that the singer is currently recording new tracks on the road during her "Mrs. Carter" world tour.
When the new album does come out, the pressure will be on for the typically successful songstress. Her last album, "4," was the first record that she recorded under self-management, and was also her lowest selling album ever. It sold 1.4 million copies, compared to her third studio release, "I Am... Sasha Fierce," which she released under the management of father Mathew Knowles and sold 3 million.
"4" also failed to produce a hit single comparable to 2008's "Single Ladies (Put a Ring on It)," which spent four weeks at the No. 1 spot on the charts.
Columbia Records has not commented on the story.
