DeSean Jackson: 'I Just Really Took a Guess' On Vick as Starting Quarterback

The Philadelphia Eagles are in the midst of a quarterback competition between Michael Vick, Nick Foles and Matt Barkely. Wide receiver Deasean Jackson predicted Michael Vick would be the starting quarterback this season. He recently clarified his prediction, according to Comcast SportsNet Philadelphia.

"Oh, really, honestly, I just really took a guess," Jackson said to reporters on Comcast SportsNet Philadelphia. "I took an honest opinion that came from myself."

Jackson referred to Vick’s mobility and ability to improvise on the run when he originally predicted the 10-year veteran would start. Jackson said these abilities would work in head coach Chip Kelly’s fast pace offense. He also said the time Vick has spent in the NFL is as a plus.

"At the end of the day, Vick has been here, he has been going on (13 years), and I just think he has accomplished some great things -- and the maturity level," said the star wide receiver. "He's matured a lot since the situation happened and coming out of jail."

Jackson also said his prediction wasn’t a shot at Foles.

“He understands what I said and what I basically put out there,” Jackson said. “Nick's a great player, nothing to take away from him. [I] never said anything bad about him. Just an opinion I thought.”

Apparently, none of Kelly's three quarterbacks are a lock to be behind center when the season starts—it doesn’t seem to matter if he's a two-year player like Foles, a veteran like Vick or a rookie like Barkley.

The QB competition has prompted Vick to work out this offseason.

"I've been doing a lot of curls, a lot of bench press this offseason," Vick said at Eagles training camp on Tuesday according to NFL.com. "Just trying to put my body in the best position possible to withstand the hits. Everybody says I'm injury prone, so I'm trying to fight that.”

"But it's cool, man. That's why we compete. That's why we work out. That's why we train hard ... to come out and do the things we know how to do, and that's play good football. But you have to stay on the field to do so. So that's why I've been working out.”
