Did E.L. James finally figure out who she wanted to cast as Christian Grey in the movie "Fifty Shades of Grey"? According to US Weekly, the author reportedly offered the role to actor Garrett Hedlund but he turned it down.
A source told the magazine that the 28-yar-old passed on the opportunity to plat the BDSM billionaire due to scheduling conflicts.
"Doing a possible trilogy was too big a commitment, and producers wouldn't let him do just one film," the source said.
That is great news for fans because it means that, according to these reports, steps are being made to cast the lead character. Since Hedlund passed on the role that means "Team 50" now has to go on to their other choices as Christian Grey.
This same source also said that Ian Somerhalder was not going to be offered the role as Grey. Somerhlader had been a fan-favorite from the very beginning of casting rumors.
"E.L. James was at a Comic-con party July 20 telling people that the part won't go to Ian," the source told the magazine.
Earlier in the day James tweeted that she had to make phone calls and seemed pretty upset but quickly told a fan that the phone call had nothing to do with the movie.
The 34-year-old "Vampire Diaries" actor has been extremely vocal about playing the billionaire telling Metro Online that he never gets tired of people asking him about the role. He also recently did a radio interview with Ryan Seacrest and said that he was definitely interested in being cast in the movie.
"I absolutely be up for that. It could be very, very amazing," he told Seacrest. "I have the book and I just started reading it. That would be a pretty incredible thing, and hopefully that could pan out."
