North Korea: Kim Jong-un Assures Public He Has Political Control with Video of Sister Kim Yo Jong

In a new propaganda video, North Korea's leader Kim Jong-un is showing the world he is still in control. The dictator showed a rare clip of his younger sister, Kim Yo Jong, who is his closest ally.

The one-minute video shows Kim Jong-un boarding a small plane and then the young leader instructing his military officers before zooming in on a bombing exercise. The video was played on North Korean television after Kim Jong-un announced that he would not be attending a ceremonial parade in Moscow this weekend, according to CNN.

The report said that what was perplexing about the video is the rare footage of his sister Kim Yo Jong, his own biological sister among seven siblings fathered by the late Kim Il Sung. The elder Kim had four wives, but Kim Yo Jong and Kim Jong-un have the same mother.

Like their late father, who was also assisted by his sister while holding the highest post in North Korea, Kim Jong-un also appointed his sister as his sort of "Chief of Staff" and had been in charge of his schedule, security details, logistical needs and other itineraries.

She is said to have close ties with the Guard Command and Ministry of State Security, according to Time Magazine.

Kim Jong-un recently backed down on a recent trip to Moscow and instead gave a donation of books to Amur State University of Humanities and Pedagogy in Russia that tackles the previous works of North Korea's founding father Kim Il-sung. The collection also includes volumes about the young Kim Jong-un, according to UPI.

The main reason given by Kim Jong-un's office, according to a Kremlin spokesman is due to internal affairs, the publication added.

The internal unrest in North Korea's government has been related to South Korea's intelligence reports to parliament stating that this might be connected to the recent executions of 15 senior officers in North Korea because they defied Kim Jong-un's orders, according to The New York Times.
