The Philadelphia Eagles have fined wide receiver Riley Cooper after a video surfaced showing Cooper uttering some racially offensive comments, according to NFL.com.
The video showed the Caucasian wide receiver while he was at a Kenny Chesney concert. He seems to be annoyed. He then points in the direction of the camera while talking to a person to his left and says, “I will jump that fence and fight every [expletive] here bro.”
Cooper released a statement through Twitter:
The University of Florida spoke to reporters and answered questions for about the incident for around six minutes. He said he was not raised that way and did not deal with the situation well.
The 25-year old added he has not spoken to his teammates yet. He said the team fined him "a good amount of money."
According to Cooper he had been drinking and got into a disagreement with an African American security guard. He learned about the video, which was posted on Crossingbroad.com and picked up by Deadspin, only hours before it hit the web.
"We are shocked and appalled by Riley Cooper's words," Eagles Owner Jeffery Lurie said. "This sort of behavior or attitude from anyone has no role in a civil society. He has accepted responsibility for his words and his actions. He has been fined for this incident.”
"This is the lowest of the lows," Cooper said. "This isn't the type of person I want to be portrayed as, this isn't the type of person that I am. I'm just extremely sorry.
Cooper was projected to be the Eagles No. 2 receiver this season with Jeremy Maclin out for the season due to knee surgery.
The NFL issued a statement concerning Cooper’s racially-offensive comments:
The NFL stands for diversity and inclusion. Comments like this are wrong, offensive, and unacceptable.
