'Law & Order' Resurrection? Sam Waterston Says 'Got to Break the Record,' Is Dick Wolf and NBC On Board?

Just as NBC has resurrected shows with "Heroes Reborn" and "Coach," viewers may get to hear a fresh set of "dun duns" all over again. Sam Waterston, "Law & Order's" second longest running cast member, is all for another run.

"I've heard that they will if they can. There are a lot of moving parts," Waterston told The Hollywood Reporter. "If they can get it all assembled I understand that the network would be pleased and happy, and I know Dick Wolf would."

Waterston joined "Law & Order" in season five and stayed for 16 years until the show ended. He won a Screen Actors Guild award, three Emmy nominations and a nomination for a Golden Globe during that time. Is that enough, or would Waterston be ready to revise his role as District Attorney Jack McCoy?

"You're darn right. Sure, I'd love it," Waterston told THR. "Got to break the record."

"Law & Order" was previously set to break the record for longest-running primetime scripted drama series. "Gunsmoke" still holds the record, since "Law & Order" was abruptly cancelled at the end of season 20 in May 2010.

Until then, Waterston has moved on to a new role: Saul in Netflix's new sitcom "Grace and Frankie," which debuts Friday, May 8. Waterston plays the ex-husband of Frankie (Lily Tomlin) who marries Robert (Martin Sheen), the ex-husband of Grace (Jane Fonda).
