Man of Steel 2 Casting: Studio Rumored To be Looking for An Actor In His 40s To Play The Next Batman

It was announced at this year's Comic-Con in San Diego the sequel to this summer's blockbuster hit "Man Of Steel" will feature the other iconic super hero from DC Comics, Batman. However, although Christopher Nolan, the creator of "The Dark Knight" trilogy has his name attached to the new Superman franchise, his Batman won't be the one featured in the films. Christian Bale will have nothing to do with the films at all.

Rumor has it, according to IGN, the new Batman won't be a twenty to thirty year-old just starting out as a superhero. Because no one is interested in another origin story so soon, the new Batman will be an older man who has been on the job for a number of years.

According to Batman-on-Film, multiple sources have told them Warner Bros. is looking at actors in their 40s to play the world's greatest detective and hand-to-hand combat expert in the Man of Steel sequel.

The latest in the casting rumor mill has distinguished actors like Josh Duhamel, Jude Law, Gerard Butler, Josh Brolin, Jon Hamm, Brad Pitt, Ben Affleck or Jim Caviezel.

Affleck would be a likely choice considering he's been Warner Bros. go-to guy ever since Argo. However, he is committed to directing these days and has already been reported to have passed on directing the Justice League of America movie. Affleck has already dawned the cowl of a famous super hero in the Marvel universe when he played Daredevil, a role which the actor continually says burned him out.

Meanwhile, Caviezel currently stars on the show "Person of Interest," a show that just so happens to be produced by Nolan's brother Jonathan. This could give the actor his in to pick up where Christian Bale left off.

Brolin and Butler have each starred in films for Warner Bros. including "Gangster Squad" and "300" respectively.

Jon Hamm starred in Afleck's "The Town" and IGN reports the Mad Men star has been named a fan favorite pick for several other super hero roles. He certainly has the older and distinguished look, not to mention physical condition to play a believable Batman.
