Spotify Makes It Easier To Find Mood Music With New "Browse" Feature

Spotify is making it easier for users to find music for any mood with the release of its new Browse feature on iOS and Android devices, rolling out on Monday.

Browse is a feature from the popular on-demand music streaming service that allows users to select curated playlists based on certain moods they may have like "romance," "joy" or "melancholy." In addition, there will be playlists for occasions such as "Monday morning" or "Day at the beach." Playlists will be based on Spotify's elaborate library of music and will allow users to save tracks to their own personal library and save playlists for later.

According to Mashable, many of the Browse playlists may look familiar to fans of the popular Spotify related app, Tunigo. Back in May, Spotify acquired Tunigo and moved the team into its offices. Since that time the Tunigo team has been responsible for creating, vetting and producing many of the playlists in Browse.

Spotify doesn't seem content with simply offering a variety of music to its users, it wants to be the go-to place to discover new music as well. Browse is another way to help users do just that. Last year the company announced its Follow and Discover features, each designed to make it easier for users to find new artists and bands and keep up with them. Their algorithmic suggestions for songs and albums are constantly being tweaked in order to provide users with the best music experience possible. Meanwhile, giving listeners a way to follow artists allows the program to give something back to the music industry as well.

With so many other radio and streaming services available, Spotify is clearly hoping to lean on discovery and social features to set them apart from the rest of the pack. Up against Pandora and the recently announced iTunes Radio, Spotify is going to have to keep revolutionizing in order to keep users interested. Browse is another step toward achieving that goal.
