The third season of "Scandal" is definitely going to be a fast-paced, whirlwind like last season. Recently the cast spilled some secrets about what fans can expect in the explosive new season.
According to Latinos Post, the new season is called "It's Handled" and was written by creator Shonda Rhimes herself. Unlike previous seasons there will not be a time jump which means the third season is going to pick up right where last season left off.
"It's not fair to drop that kind of bomb and then be like, 'Now we're going to jump ahead in time!' we're actually talking about starting next time with no time jump at all. Starting maybe 25 minutes after we leave last season," Rhimes told The Hollywood Reporter.
In the finale of last season fans learned that Rowan was actually Olivia Pope's father, Olivia ended her relationship with President Fitz again and decided to choose her career and coworkers over her sticky relationship with the President. The biggest shocker of the season finale was probably when Olivia was about to leave her house and was surrounded by reporters asking her if she really was the President's mistress.
"[The season premiere] will feel seamless in terms of giving people exactly what they love about 'Scandal,' Dan Bucatinsky, who plays James, said to TV Line. We come back and relationships are just as rich, and just as surprising, and just as tense. That's what I noticed about the first script."
Rhimes also revealed that there will be a hunt for whoever leaked the information about Olivia and President Fitz and it might not be the person everyone is expecting.
"There's a lot to be dealt with there and in true 'Scandal' style, whatever you think we're going to do, we're not going to do," Rhimes told TV Guide adding that fans will be very surprised by who leaked the news. "I'm pretty proud of the way we found our way out of it. At the end of last season, when we said that's going to happen, everyone was like, 'How are we going to get out of it?' and I was like., 'I have no idea!' I feel like the story continues at the same breakneck pace and we're going to have that same energy."
Other big surprises for the new season: the first two episodes will focus on Olivia and Rowan's father-daughter relationship, not everyone handles the news of Olivia as mistress that well and President Fitz could be forced into addressing the situation. Tony Goldwyn, who plays the President, added that he is likely going to suspect his wife, Mellie, with leaking the news but it could be someone else.
Who do you think revealed Olivia's secret?
The new season of "Scandal" begins Oct. 3 at 10 p.m. on ABC.
