Amanda Bynes Parents Granted Temporary Conservatorship: 'She's Not Improving Yet, She's Still Delusional'

Amanda Bynes' downward spiral continues, and a judge has stepped in on behalf of her parents, granting them a temporary conservatorship of their daughter.

TMZ reports a judge based the decision "on the findings of an investigator he appointed to evaluate Amanda's mental health."

"She's not improving yet. She's still delusional. These meds take longer than a week to work, and she's only been given them for about a week," the source told The News Thursday.

Bynes was due in court today, but doctors at the psychiatric hospital were granted a 1-month extension on her psychiatric hold. A judge believes Byne's is "gravely disabled with mental illness," according to TMZ.

The temporary conservatorship will end Sept. 30., and a judge will hold a formal hearing to see decide on a potentially permanent conservatorship.

Byne's lawyer told the Judge the actress is against the conservatorship and believes it is not necessary.

"The conservatorship not only covers Amanda's personal well-being, it gives her mom the ability to manage her finances," TMZ reports. "Amanda's $4 million savings have been rapidly depleted, though it's unclear what she's been spending money on. The judge cautioned the parents not to make any significant deals without consulting with Amanda's lawyer."

The judge on Byne's case wants to interview the actress to see the extent of her mental health situation.

"The problem with that is, we don't know how long that (mental health conservatorship) could be in effect," Judge Reiser told the court. "It could disappear, and there would be nothing left in the interim to deal with the proposed conservatee."

The judge advised Lynne Bynes, Amanda's mother and now legal conservator, to consult her daughter's lawyer before doing anything with her estate, according to the New York Daily News.

Bynes was place under a 72-hour psychiatric hold after causing a fire in a stranger's Southern California driveway on July 22.
