I have seen kids dip Cheetos in their cups of Pepsi and thought, "well, that's interesting," but never imagined a company would actually create the soda snack flavor.
Frito-Lay has created a Pepsi-flavored line of Cheetos and stocked the new snack on store shelves in Japan. Yes, the Cheetos tastes like Pepsi, and actually fizzes in your mouth, according The Los Angeles Times.
"The first sensation, which I did not expect, was a very acidic bite," wrote Impulse Buy reporter. "It tries to capture the citrus notes of Pepsi, but it's over the top. Too lemony. The sweeter cola flavor is there but it's subtler and overpowered by the intense citrus."
Have I indulged in Cheetos and consumed Pepsi at the same time? Yes. Can I imagine myself eating a bag of Pepsi-flavored Cheetos? Not really.
Hybrid foods exist, like Wendy's pretzel burger or Dorito's flavored taco shells, but has this snack food gone too far?
"The snacks, which hit shelves in Japan last month, will be sold there only for a limited time," Frito-Lay spokesman Jeff Dahncke told USA Today.
There are currently no plans on releasing the snack to store shelves in the U.S.
Keeping the snack food out the U.S. may not be such a bad idea, considering fast food chains are always fighting to create the next "weird, but I'll try it" item on their menus.
In June, Dunkin Donuts announced their "Glazed Donut Breakfast Sandwich." People can now ordered bacon, egg and cheese between two donut slices, and you are not limited to a specific donut. If you wanted a chocolate glaze donut sandwich, a Dunkin Donuts employee will gladly prepare you one.
Well, if the Pepsi-flavored Cheetos make it to U.S. shelves, it will fit right in.
