‘Game of Thrones’ Risk Board Game is Here

Following the reveal of a "Game of Thrones" themed Monopoly game earlier this year, HBO is now moving forward with a new board game connected to the hit show: Risk.

Players will compete for control of Westeros and the Iron Throne in the Risk: Game of Thrones Edition Game, created by USAopoly in conjunction with Hasbro and HBO. Lannisters vs. Starks, Targaryens vs. Baratheons; this board game will bring to life all of your favorite storylines from the show.

The game comes with upwards of 650 pieces, including two custom game boards, seven distinct armies, seven player boards and 28 character cards. This new edition of Risk can be played with between two and seven people, ages 18 and older, with an expected retail price of $74.95. It will hit stores in August.

Players will choose from one of seven Noble House armies, with each army composed of 45 pieces for a total of 315 game pieces. There are two different designs allowing for both one-unit armies and three-unit armies, along with one Seat of Power design.

Gameplay will vary depending on the two custom game board displays. One shows the "Game of Thrones" known world and another features the War of Five Kings between House Martell, Stark, Baratheon, Lannister and Tyrell. There is also a two-player game where participants can challenge the Ghiscari slavers in Essos through House Targaryen. Combining the two maps allows for seven players to war among all seven Houses.

Player boards will be individualized for each House and allow you to track your progress in terms of victory points, castles, ports and territories.

Character cards will enable you to use specific battle skills of four powerful members of each house. For instance, a Daenerys Targaryen card can be played when announcing an invasion, and lets you replace all 6-sided dice with 8-sided dice. Similar features exist for other characters such as Cersei Lannister.
