It seems impossible that any casting news about the upcoming "Man of Steel" sequel could outshine Ben Affleck's casting as the next Batman. Only one actor can get fans as excited for a villain as Affleck has about a hero. Bryan Cranston, star of AMC's sensational hit "Breaking Bad" has signed on for the role of Lex Luthor for the upcoming film.
According to Cosmic Book News, the contract casting is for at least six movies. The role of Cranston's Luthor has been compared to Samuel L. Jackson's Nick Fury, which was used to tie all of the Phase One Marvel movies together. Cranston will join the DC in order to play the villain in the next Man of Steel movie as well as link all other movies in the DC universe together in order to set the stage for an eventual Justice League movie.
Unfortunately none of this information has been confirmed either by the studio or Cranston's people. That news will likely come after the finale of Cranston's current high-profile project, the final few episodes of "Breaking Bad," which will end on September 29.
Cranston has won three Emmy Awards for his role on AMC's "Breaking Bad." He plays a former Chemistry teacher who, once diagnosed with terminal cancer, cooks meth in order to provide for his family. Since the series began 2008 the character has gone from a quirky high school teacher to a villainous drug kingpin capable of just about anything to stay on top. Channeling this character will help Cranston transition form Walter White to Lex Luthor relatively easily.
There is no word yet on who else will be joining the DC Universe alongside Affleck, Cavill and Cranston. Other rumors have stated that Matt Damon is being eyed by the studio as a potential Green Lantern.
