A day after "Jurassic World" overtook "The Avengers" to become the third highest-grossing movie of all time, Universal announced a sequel to the blockbuster.
The sequel is slated for a June 22, 2018 release and will see the return of Chris Pratt and Bryce Dallas Howard, reprising their roles as Owen Grady and Claire Dearing, respectively, according to CNN.
Spielberg will be back as executive producer and "Jurassic World" screenwriters Derek Connoly and Colin Trevorrow, who was also the film's director, will co-write the screenplay of the sequel, the official title for which has not yet been revealed, according to E!.
"Jurassic World" has grossed more than $1.52 billion worldwide since the motion picture was released in June. James Cameron's 2009 sci-fi film "Avatar" leads the charts with a collection of $2.79 billion followed by Cameron's other blockbuster "Titanic" in the No 2. spot with $2.19 billion. "The Avengers" ranks fourth with $1.519 billion.
