NBA Live 14: Sean O'Brien Talks Regaining Fans and Going up Against the Competition

We’re only a couple months away from the release of the PlayStation 4 (Nov. 15) and the Xbox One (Nov. 22)—which means we’re also a few months away from the arrival of “NBA Live 14,” and the chance to finally see what the hype is about.

Executive Producer Sean O’Brien and his team have spent all summer advertising the game and trying to get fans to believe in the resurgence of the NBA Live brand which has failed for the past three years. However, according to an exclusive interview O’Brien recently did with Review Fix, he knows that gamers are still “going to be skeptical.”

“We have a lot of LIVE fans who want us back and want us to be successful, but realistically they are going to be skeptical…and we don’t blame them,” he said in the interview.” We need to prove ourselves by delivering the game they want. We want them to try it out and tell us if we did right, and where we need to go moving forward.”

O’Brien also knows that, unlike its football counterpart Madden NFL which has had no competition for the past few years, he and his crew are stepping into an arena that is dominated by 2K Sports’ NBA 2K.

“Do you have a really tall ladder? We place high expectations on ourselves and hold each other accountable to create a game that aligns with our vision for the franchise,” the executive producer said. “From a gamer’s perspective, equally as high…we’ve been out of the game for a while and a strong competitor owns the genre.”

The NBA Live team has done a whole host of things in an attempt to rebuild its reputation before the release of “NBA Live 14.” They announced their features about a month before NBA 2K, they had an entire presentation at E3 and this isn’t the first time O’Brien has done interviews openly acknowledging the brand’s shortcomings and their road to rehabilitation.

However, despite all of this, gamers won’t be able to truly judge the return of NBA Live until they buy the game and play it on their next gen consoles.

“NBA Live 14,” which is next-gen exclusive, will be available with the release of the PlayStation 4 on Nov. 15 and the Xbox One on Nov. 22.
