As apple prepares for the big unveiling of its newest editions to the iPhone family, the iPhone 5S and the cheaper iPhone C at a press event on Sept. 10, rumors are surfacing that say the company is already testing variations of the next big thing in coming to the iPhone.
According to the Wall Street Journal the electronics giant has begun evaluating and testing plans to offer the an iPhone with screen displays ranging anywhere from 4.8-inches to as large as 6-inches, which would make the device one of the largest displays on the smartphone market.
If true, these plans would likely help the company compete with its current South Korean tech giant rival, Samsung, which recently unveiled the Galaxy Note 3 smartphone device with a 5.7-inch screen. The idea is for these phones to bridge the gap between a smartphone and a tablet as kind of a hybrid. As a result, these large-display phones are often referred to as "phablets" (phone/tablets).
It's unclear whether or not Apple plans to market these new larger screen devices as the iPhone 6's eventual release or if they'll begin a new product line all their own. The company has been struggling in recent months to find an innovation that will allow it to make money off of some kind of new product line. Perhaps throwing its hat into the emerging phablet market will be just what Apple needs to generate some revenue, creating one more must have device from the company.
On Sept. 10 the company will take its first step toward offering users a second product line, in a way. The iPhone C will act as a low-cost companion to the high-end iPhone 5S. For the firs time, customers will have a choice on which new iPhone to buy, the flagship high-end device or the lower-end more affordable smartphone.
