Hillary Clinton and activists from Black Lives Matter were present at a closed-door meeting last week, in which the two sides had a very frank discussion. Since the meeting was recorded on video that was released on Monday, everyone else now gets to be in on that meeting, according to CNN.
"Look, I don't believe you change hearts," Clinton said in the video, CNN reported. "I believe you change laws, you change allocation of resources, you change the way systems operate. You're not going to change every heart. You're not. But at the end of the day, we could do a whole lot to change some hearts and change some systems and create more opportunities for people who deserve to have them," she said.
The meeting took place on Aug. 11, after a group of protesters were not allowed into Clinton's forum on substance abuse because the event was already full.
"Whatever it takes to get Black Lives Matter on the national agenda is what we're seeking to do and it's important to note that folks want to characterize and judge the Black Lives Matter movement in a myriad of ways, but what no one can argue with is this is a pressing issue," Julius Jones, founder of Black Lives Matter, said.
The meeting got pretty tense, according to Daily Mail. Talking to MSNBC after the meeting, Julius Jones said he felt Clinton's answers weren't good enough.
The meeting lasted for about 15 minutes in total, and much of the discussion centered on policies put in place by Bill Clinton when he was president and Hillary was first lady, according to The Miami Herald.
