A toddler has reportedly shot and killed his own father with a bullet to the head, according to Alabama police. The two-year-old was home alone with his father. When his mother returned home, she found the gruesome scene, according to the Washington Post.
Gregg Rector, detective for the Hoover police, says the strongest possible explanation is that the victim, 31-year-old Divine Vaniah Chambliss, was killed by his son, according to CNN.
"I can't completely go out on a limb and say it was accidental or how he was shot, but the mother of the child called us and said she discovered him and thinks their son may have shot him," said Rector. "We don't have any indications of an intruder or any indication that the gunshot was self-inflicted."
The boy and a sibling resided in the apartment; when his mother was at work the father would often care for the children while she was away, according to the Star Advertiser.
Rector went on to say that pulling the trigger of a semiautomatic handgun would not be an impossible task for the toddler to complete.
The autopsy is underway and the investigation is still ongoing.
Rector says that they will not exclude any possiblities as they try to definitively find an answer to Chambliss' death.
