Watch out Wendy's Pretzel Burger, America has a new food obsession: the pizzaburger.
Boston's Restaurant & Sports Bars nationwide is serving the two ultimate American dishes combined in one dish.
"Our cultural love of pizza stems from our emotional connection to social consumption," Brad Bevill, vice president of marketing, told USA Today. "I'm seeing lots of pizza tattoos on Instagram."
According to USA Today, the pizzaburger is a bacon cheeseburger wrapped in a pepperoni pizza, cooked like a calzone and served with lettuce, tomato and a pickle.
"We're not pretending that it's a healthy product," Bevill said of the 1,360-calorie Pepperoni & Bacon Pizzaburger, which comes packed with 2,000 milligrams of sodium. "You're talking about a hamburger and pizza wrapped together."
Americans love pizza, but will many be willing to eat what seems like a "heart-attack waiting to happen" dish? Statistics say, yes.
"Sales at U.S. pizza restaurants topped $36 billion last year - up nearly 4% from the year before, reports Packaged Facts food industry tracker," USA Today reports. "Consider: 97% of U.S. adults eat pizza at least once a year, and more than 27% eat it monthly."
The chain restaurant is not the first to introduce crazy menu items to their customers; Taco Bell, Wendy's, Dunkin Donuts and Burger King have all release some sort of food concoction.
Taco Bell started the food trend when the fast-food company released their line of Doritos Locos Tacos and eventually the Waffle Taco. Dunkin Donuts followed with the Glazed Donut Breakfast Sandwich.
Wendy's rolled out the Pretzel Burger and Burger King recently released their French fry burger. Out of all the fast food concoctions, the pizzaburger is arguably the worst meal you could consume, seeing as it almost has the amount of calories one needs for an entire day.
Though Boston's Restaurant is admitting the dish isn't healthy, the pizzaburger will appeal for foodies everywhere. Will you try the burger? Share your thoughts in the comments section below.
