Prince announced via Twitter on Wednesday that he would be hosting a three-night "international dance party" over Labor Day weekend at his Paisley Park Records Studio in Chanhassen, Minn. The party will kick off at 9.30 p.m. from Friday through Sunday with a $40 cover and promises live music, food and - most likely - a preview of the singer's new album.
The tweet also states that the party is being hosted "2 celebrate the global release of Prince's new music," referring to Prince's album "HITNRUN," which arrives on Jay Z's streaming service TIDAL on Monday. Jay Z launched the streaming service earlier this year promising artists and songwriters the highest percentage of royalties. A TIDAL membership starts at $9.99 a month, according to Minneapolis Star Tribune.
The album was co-produced with Joshua Welton, who has previously worked with Prince on his 2014 album, "Art Official Age," and is married to Prince's 3rdEyeGirl band member, Hannah Welton.
"I would say it's an experimental Prince record for fans who just don't care about him sounding like a certain thing. I know he has different types of fan bases and this is kind of for the [hardcore] Purple Collective, the ones who say 'I don't care what he puts out! I love Prince.' And because he's such a creative, it gives him that freedom to say, 'I just want to make music like this today,'" said Welton about the upcoming album, Entertainment Weekly reported.
