Rally Car Wreck, Spain: La Coruna Rally Crash Kills 6, Including 2 Pregnant Women And 8-Year-Old Girl (WATCH)

Six people were killed and 16 others were injured when a speeding rally car lost control and slammed into a group of fans during La Coruna Rally in Carral town of Spain's north western region of Galicia.

The speeding car slammed into a group of rally spectators, killing three women, two of them pregnant, an 8-year-old girl and two men, according to Marca. The crash took place Saturday evening.

"One of the drivers took the track at a much higher speed than he should have and he veered off a curve, slamming into around 20 people," a Civil Guard spokesperson said, Reuters reported.

Local televisions showed captured footage of the accident, in which a Peugeot 206 XS was seen jumping off the road and slamming into a group of spectators.

Officials suspended the race, in which over 130 cars were taking part, following the tragic accident, according to Scallywagand Vagabond. Police authorities are also investigating the matter.

Prime Minister Mariano Rajoy said that the Coruna car rally was "tinged with mourning" while expressing his condolences.

"My heartfelt condolences for those killed. I wish the injured a full and speedy recovery," Rajoy said on his Twitter account, according to BBC News.
