TiVo is suing Samsung for alleged patent infringement, according to PC Mag. The suit was filed on Tuesday in a Texas court. In it, TiVo alleges that Samsung violated four of its patents, two of which are the "Time Warp" and the "Trick Play" patents that perform functions much like a DVR.
The lawsuit by TiVo comes shortly after their settlement with Dish Network, Verizon, and various other companies for over $1 billion, according to Engadget.
The patents that have won TiVo these settlements, however, expire in 2018, according to Variety.
TiVo continues to grow as a company, a recent earnings report showing that the company saw a net revenue of $120 million this year in comparison to $112 million last year, according to Variety. Within the next few months, they also plan on releasing an updated version of their DVR, coined the "Bolt."
The company hopes the new release will give them the push they need.
It's not yet known what the company is asking for from Samsung in terms of money, but CEO Tom Rodgers has come out saying that this is a "significant lawsuit... Samsung is a major DVR supplier to the cable industry," according to Engadget.
It is likely that the two companies will settle before it ever reaches court.
