Keurig, Campbell Team Up To Make Chicken Soup K-Cup

A new kind of K-Cup is hitting stores, and it's one you might not expect. Keurig Green Mountain and Campbell Soup Co. are joining forces to create a chicken soup K-Cup, according to CNN. The product will include a soup mix packet and a K-Cup pod with broth.

The companies are coming out with two flavors to start: Homestyle Chicken and Southwest Style Chicken.

The new venture marks Keurig's first go at producing food, Bloomberg reported. Sales fell for the coffee-pod producer last quarter by 1.4 percent. Forecasts for the future of the company are dim, and demand is falling for their coffee pods. Keurig hopes that this new partnership will increase their sales and get them back on track.

The two companies teamed up almost two years ago with the goal of producing these soup pods, and they finally announced on Wednesday that the K-Cups would be hitting stores in the U.S. and Canada within the month, according to the Consumerist.

Michael Goodman, marketing director of innovation at Campbell Soup, commented on the Wednesday announcement.

"We know more than 80 percent of people who buy Keurig pods also buy Campbell's soup. Bringing together two products people love in one handy kit is a winning idea," he said.
