Apple has reportedly sold more than 9 million of its new iPhone 5S and iPhone 5C devices in their first launch weekend. Although the company will not release the actual statistics as to which of its two new flagship smartphones brought in the most bucks, it is saying that this weekend is its best iPhone launch to date.
Over the last three days, Apple launched its high-end flagship smartphone the iPhone 5S and its low-cost plastic-backed competitor, the iPhone 5C. The iPhone 5S models sold out at across the nation despite some of its new color options not being available for a few weeks.
"This is our best iPhone launch yet-more than nine million new iPhones sold-a new record for first weekend sales," said Tim Cook, Apple's CEO. "The demand for the new iPhones has been incredible, and while we've sold out of our initial supply of iPhone 5s, stores continue to receive new iPhone shipments regularly. We appreciate everyone's patience and are working hard to build enough new iPhones for everyone."
In addition to the iPhone sales, Apple also reported that more than 200 million devices are now running on its new iOS 7, the latest in the company's mobile operating system. Apple says that its customer's adoption of iOS 7 marks the fastest upgrade in history.
Although the company won't release actual data on which of its two new smartphones sold more units, CNET reports a mobile analytics firm Localytics said, via CNET, that its data indicates the iPhone 5S activations were three times greater than those of the iPhone 5C over the weekend. AT&T proved the most popular carrier among the U.S.- based customers. However, these are speculative statistics until Apple unveils its real numbers.
