Rupert Wyatt: 'Gambit' Director Exits Movie Starring Channing Tatum

Rupert Wyatt, whose credits include 20th Century Fox's "Rise of the Planet of the Apes," has dropped out of the studio's "Gambit" starring Channing Tatum, according to Deadline.

The "X-Men" spin-off, which has run into a number of impediments from the start, has now seen the departure of its director due to script and budget issues and the resultant delay.

"I was very much looking forward to working with my friend Channing and the team at Fox, but regrettably a push in the start date now conflicts with another project. I thank them for the opportunity, and I know that Gambit will make a terrific film," Wyatt said, according to TheWrap.

The production for the movie was scheduled to start in November, but it was pushed back to early 2016, prompting Wyatt's exit from the project. A new director is expected to be announced shortly.

"Gambit," which is slated to hit theatres on Oct. 7, 2016 will follow the release of Fox's "X-Men: Apocalypse," which comes out on May 27, 2016, Variety reported.
