Cleveland Browns quarterback Johnny Manziel will start this week against the Tennessee Titans, according to Andrew Gribble of clevelandbrowns.com.
Quarterback Josh McCown is still under the NFL's concussion protocol after suffering a concussion last week against the New York Jets. Manziel will face off against another Heisman winner in Marcus Mariota. Mariota threw for four touchdowns against Tampa Bay, and Manziel will likely need to be on his game if Mariota replicates that performance.
Against the Jets, Manziel threw for 182 yards as well as a touchdown. The negative side, however, is that he was sacked three times and threw an interception. Manziel can make magic happened on the field, but it really hasn't translated to the NFL. Defenses are quicker in the league, and Manziel's quick feet just don't seem fast enough.
The Browns rushed for 104 yards last Sunday, and Manziel was the leading rusher with 35 yards. The Browns will need to get the running game working against Tennessee, or they are likely to be in trouble.
Manziel was the 22nd pick in the 2014 NFL Draft, but he hasn't made an impact on the league yet. He has thrown one touchdown and three interceptions in six games played. Mariota has already out performed Manziel, and he has only played one game in the league.
Manziel will need a statement game if he wants to become the full time starter, because right now, he is just filling in for McCown.
