"The View" isn't doing too well right now. Snuggle, Party City and McCormick have followed in the footsteps of Johnson & Johnson and Eggland's Best and had their ads removed from the ABC talk show, according to The Wrap. "Thank you for your feedback and for sharing your concern. In response to recent comments made on 'The View,' Party City has decided to pause its advertising accordingly," Party City reportedly wrote.
McCormick announced the company's withdrawal to fans on via Facebook, writing, "Thank you for expressing your concerns. Like you, we also value and admire nurses, so we have paused advertising on the daytime television show in question."
In Snuggle's post, the company removed ads to support nurses, and explained the placement of its company's ad was not to endorse the show, but merely based on a time slot.
"In placing our advertising for Snuggle we choose time slots, (and not programs), during which to run our spots; so the airing of an advertisement should not be interpreted as brand sponsorship or endorsement of any program or its content," the company wrote, according to The Wrap. "As a supporter of nurses, we disagree with the comments made on daytime television and have paused our advertising for that program. Please join us in thanking and celebrating nurses for the critical role they play in our healthcare system."
Viewers of the show became outraged after co-hosts Joy Behar and Michelle Collins mocked Miss Colorado Kelley Johnson's nurse monologue at the 2015 Miss America pageant. Collins said, "She came out in a nurse's uniform and basically read her emails out loud and shockingly did not win." While Behar added, "Why does she have a doctor's stethoscope on?"
Their comments went viral after workers in the medical care profession took to social media to support Miss Colorado under the hashtag #NursesUnite - a movement sharing the importance of nurses in the medical field. After the show received plenty of criticism for its jokes, the co-hosts issued an apology during Friday's episode.
"After we made comments about the Miss America broadcast and the talent performance by Miss Colorado, we heard from many of you," Behar said on the show. "You let us know you were offended by some of our comments and believe me, we were listening. We apologize for our remarks and we know how vitally important nurses are."
She added, "But we didn't want to leave it at that. So we have invited the dedicated professionals from NYU College of Nursing to share firsthand what these hard-working nurses do on a daily basis."
Collins admitted that she didn't "understand the challenges facing nurses" and added, "hopefully, by focusing on this today, we can help better understand and recognize the critical role that nurses play in caring for others and making such a big difference."
The View" also honored nurses by inviting a group of nurses to appear on the show. Last week, advertisers Eggland's Best and Johnson & Johnson announced that they had pulled their advertising from "The View."
