Less than a week after Viola Davis made history and won an Emmy for Outstanding Lead Actress in a Drama Series for her portrayal of Annalise Keeting, "Hot to Get Away with Murder" finally returned to ABC for its highly anticipated second season. The Shonda Rhimes-produced show wasted no time and got down to the good and dirty questions that fans waited all summer to have answered!
In the first season, viewers had to wait an entire season to find out who killed the knocked up sorority girl Lila, but this time, answers were given a lot sooner. On the final episode of the first season, it was discovered that someone killed Rebecca. Annalise and Frank were the only one's who knew she was dead as they found her body in the basement of Annalise's law office/home. The two lied and told everyone else that she was not dead, but missing.
The murderer was revealed within the forty-five-minutes of the episode, and it was one of the last people expected!
Here are the five most memorable moments from the season two premiere of "How to Get Away with Murder."
1. Wes refuses to answer Annalise's question in law class.
Last season, after Annalise and Frank found the dead body of Rebecca in the basement, the two decided to lie and that said she was missing instead of dead. At the beginning of the episode, Wes believes his girlfriend, Rebecca, was missing and in dramatic Wes form, he decided to stroll into his law class with Annalise late and sassed her the entire way through.
In the classroom, Wes has always been seen as kind of a teacher's pet, so when he refused to answer Professor Keeting's question when called upon, the entire room fell silent and starred at him in horror.
Wes looked as though he was not handling the "disappearance" of his girlfriend Rebecca so well, even though he also believed she killed Sam (she didn't).
2. There's a new lawyer in town, and her and Annalise have a past.
While Annalise gave her four of "the Keeting five" students a stern talking to, in walked a mysterious woman decked out in a killer red coat. Her name was Eve, and the two clearly had a past together. Eve, a brilliant defense attorney that specialized in death row cases, went to Harvard Law with Annalise, but there is some unknown hidden tension between the two.
As it turns out, Eve's number was the one Annalise gave to Nate towards the end of the first season when she told him to fire his initial lawyer. Annalise called upon Eve to help save Nate, the man she was having an affair with and intentionally set up for the murder of her husband, Sam.
Naturally, Nate wanted nothing to do with Eve. He suspected that if he hired Eve as his lawyer, he would just be playing into Annalise's trap.
3. The killer is revealed!
At the beginning of the episode, Frank told Annalise that whoever killed Rebecca had to be strong enough to drag her lifeless body under the staircase in the basement. So, was it Frank? Was it Wes? No, it was Bonnie! The tiny mousy Bonnie was one of the last people suspected to have murdered Rebecca, but on "How to Get Away with Murder," it is always the last person expected!
Before Bonnie killed Rebecca, she told her that bad things happened to her too, but unlike Rebecca, she grew up and got over those problems. She then duct tapped her mouth shut, put a plastic bag over her head and suffocated her
Her reason? Bonnie claimed that she did not believe Rebecca when she said that she did not kill Lila and she was still trying to protect Sam. Bonnie also thought that Annalise would have done the same thing if the roles were reversed. Annalise was disgusted with Bonnie and called her a monster before she stormed out.
4. Annalise, the lesbian?
Late at night and after Annalise discovered that Bonnie killed Rebecca, she went over the Eve's house. Up until this point it was known that Annalise and Eve shared a mysterious past, but what exactly was that past all about?
As it turns out, Annalise was in a romantic relationship with Eve before she fell in love with Sam! Not only were they in a relationship, but Annalise even cheated on Eve and left her for Sam, who was her therapist at the time!
Caught up in all the emotions, the two ladies kiss before the scene cut away.
The next day in the courtroom, Eve was there acting as Nate's lawyer.
5. 2 months later...
As all of those other things were happening, Annalise still found time to pick up a new case. She took the case of a brother and sister who were adopted and were on trial for torturing and murdering their very, very rich parents.
The timeline speeds up to two months and the future to the giant mansion owned by the siblings' dead parents. A shot went off in the house, and someone was running away. It was Wes.
Inside the house laid Annalise, shot and bleeding on the floor of the kitchen of the mansion. Did Wes actually shoot Annalise? Will he get away with it? Is Annalise dead?
Hopefully more questions will be answered next week. "How to Get Away with Murder" returns next Thursday at 10 p.m. ET on ABC.
