Sanderson farms issued a massive recall Thursday on thousands of pounds of chicken products after foreign materials were found mixed in with the food, according to Business Wire.
Federal authorities, as well as a customer who purchased some of the food, tested the chicken and found "metal fragments" among the meat, causing 554,090 pounds of chicken products to be immediately recalled, the Consumerist reported.
Apparently, there was a problem with an ice machine, which produced metal shavings that got mixed in with the chicken.
None of the supposedly contaminated products reached the tables of consumers, as the food went to only three customers, not directly to supermarkets or stores.
Among the recalled items were young chicken parts, which included jumbo boneless skinless breast fillets with rib meat, jumbo clipped tenderloins, jumbo boneless skinless breast butterflies with rib meat and breast frames. The full recall list can be seen here.
The chicken was processed at a plant in Hazlehurst, Miss. and shipped off on Sept. 17 to places in Georgia and Louisiana, according to WTSP.
The USDA is urging those who purchased chicken in the known areas and time frame to not eat it and to return it for a refund or just dispose of it completely.
