After the devastating and deadly season three finale of AMC's hit zombie drama "The Walking Dead," The group of heroes found themselves taking a large group of strays from Woodbury to their prison fortress and saw the villains ride off in to the sunset, but how far did they go?
The tyrant of Woodbury has been missing since turning his arms on his own men, except for his loyal two henchmen who rode away with him. However, new stills from the fourth season of the hit series show the Governor alive and well, lurking in the shadows to take out the prisoners.
It was unclear if the character would be making a reappearance in the fourth season after shaking the group of survivors to its very core following the events of the third season. ***SPOILER ALERT*** The Governor led a town of survivors near the prison but soon cracked under the pressure of leadership and his battle with the prison group. After the new katana wielding character Michonne killed his daughter, whom he was keeping locked up as a walker in the hopes of a cure, and then maimed him the Governor slowly lost his mind, culminating in a failed attack on the prison and then his own people. Unlike many characters he met, he survived the third season and, as the new poster seems to indicate, is out there in the shadows waiting for the perfect time to exact his revenge on Rick and the gang.
The stills wink at some of the other subplots that have been lurking under the surface as well as some new characters who will test the group's concept of family. Daryl is seen with his arm around Carol, hinting at either a continued brother sister relationship or something more. Other stills include shots of Daryl and Michonne, Glen and Maggie embracing, Hershel gardening and quietly reading from his bible and Rick and Carl's now very complicated father and son relationship.
