Pakistan is looking to the win series opener in order to clean sweep the three-match series against Zimbabwe. It completed a 2-0 T20 series victory over the hosts on Sunday.
Pakistan's selectors again placed faith in spinner Bilal Asif by retaining him in the ODI squad.
"In a separate discussion with Misbah-ul-Haq, it was put forth by the Pakistan Test captain that since the England team contains five left-handed batsmen and because of Hafeez's inability to bowl at international level, we were left with no offspin bowling options in the Test squad," chief selector Haroon Rashid said in a statement, according to Cricinfo.
Zimbabwean skipper Elton Chigumbura hopes that his team will bounce back in the ODI series after T20 loss.
"I can repeat what I said after the last game. We were disappointing [sic] again with the bat, but the bowlers were good. We need to make sure we up our game for the ODI series," said Chigumbura, according to AFP.
