The Notre Dame fighting Irish will head to Memorial Stadium Saturday night to face the Clemson Tigers. The Irish come in ranked sixth in the country and likely have their toughest challenge as of yet facing the 12th ranked Tigers. This game is enormous for both teams because whoever loses could find themselves out of the college football playoff situation.
The Irish are led by sophomore quarterback DeShone Kizer, who has stepped up in the absence of quarterback Malik Zaire. Kizer became Notre Dame's starting quarterback when Zaire fractured his ankle against the Virginia Cavaliers. Since taking the starting role, Kizer has thrown for 541 yards with five touchdowns and two interceptions. In his first official start for the Irish, he pulled a big win out over a ranked Georgia Tech team, but Clemson looks to be his toughest test yet.
Behind Kizer is stellar running back C.J. Prosise, who has exploded on the college football scene. Prosise has 600 yards and six touchdowns in four games, and he could be a Heisman candidate come late November. Combining Prosise with junior wide receiver Will Fuller makes the Irish offense explosive. Fuller has 454 receiving yards with six touchdowns and will look to add to his numbers against the Tigers Saturday night.
Clemson has impact players on their roster as well and will likely need sophomore quarterback Deshaun Watson to play well. Watson has thrown for 641 yards and seven touchdowns in three games this season, but he also has three interceptions. Watson also has a strong running back behind him with Wayne Gallman.
Gallman is coming off a big game against Louisville over two weeks ago. Gallman had 139 yards on the ground against the Cardinals and is averaging 5.8 yards per carry this season. Clemson also has wide receiver Artavis Scott, who has 188 receiving yards and two touchdowns this season.
The game features two teams with plenty of playmakers, as well as two teams that have defenses that can make big stops. The game starts at 8:00 p.m. Eastern time, and you can watch the live broadcast here. To find Notre Dame's radio broadcast, click here, and for the Tigers radio broadcast, go here.
