The Miami Dolphins are likely to make a change at defensive coordinator if they lose a third straight game Sunday against the New York Jets, according to NFL reporter Ian Rapoport.
Defensive coordinator Kevin Coyle has reportedly lost the confidence of the players in the locker room, and another defeat like last weeks 41-14 loss to the Buffalo Bills will likely lead to his dismal.
The Dolphins were supposed to be a much-improved team this season, but their play has not shown that on the field. Miami made a big splash this offseason signing powerhouse defensive lineman Ndamukong Suh, but thus far this season Miami's defense ranks dead last in the league in terms of sacks, with only one sack through three games. With players like Suh and defensive end Cameron Wake, the Dolphins should have one of the best pass rushes in the NFL.
The Dolphins defense may be the major concern, but their offense is clearly struggling as well. Miami ranks 28th in the league in terms of rushing yards per game, and they are averaging under 75 rushing yards per game. The Dolphins clearly have their issues on defense, but they will likely need to fix their ground game if they want to turn this season around.
The Dolphins are reportedly ready to make changes if they don't pull a win out Sunday in London. Coyle will likely need a great performance from his defense if he wants to remain as defensive coordinator. It will be interesting to see how the Dolphins organization handles this situation, as they would likely need to bring someone up within the system to replace him.
