Avengers 2 Cast: Elizabeth Olsen is the Scarlet Witch, Samuel L. Jackson Confirms

Samuel L. Jackson had a brief cameo on ABC's latest episode of Marvel's "Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D." The actor did a brief interview to talk about the cameo and discuss some news about his schedule for filming Joss Whedon's other upcoming Marvel project, "The Avengers 2: Age of Ultron." During the interview, Jackson spilled the beans about the casting of new character, the Scarlet Witch.

"I don't think we begin shooting before march of next year," Jackson said to the Wall Street Journal. "I know we're shooting in London, that James Spader is Ultron and going to be the bad guy, and that we added Ms. Olsen, but I don't know what she's doing, if she's on the inside or the outside. I haven't seen a script."

Jackson is referencing Elizabeth Olsen, who has been rumored to be Whedon's choice to play The Scarlet Witch in the next film to be shot in the Marvel Universe.

Rumors have been circulating that Elizabeth Olsen, sister of Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen, was being eyed by Whedon for the role. While she isn't necessarily a high-profile choice for the role, she has made a name for herself recently by taking on challenging starring roles in independent films like "Liberal Arts" and "Martha Marcy May Marlene." In addition she's set to appear in Spike Lee's "Oldboy" and 2014's remake of "Godzilla." Now Jackson has confirmed that she will in fact be the next member of the Marvel cinematic universe.

How the film will incorporate the character, and her brother Quicksilver, will be a creative and legal hurdle. While most of the Avengers team has their powers rooted in science, the new duo are mutants in the comic books. Their father is the famous X-Men villain Magneto. Fox currently owns all rights to the X-Men franchise, also it's doubtful that Whedon will suddenly introduce mutants into the Avengers universe.

Changing character back-stories will not be something foreign to the project. Ultron, the villain and namesake for the sequel was originally created by Ant-Man. However, Ant-Man won't be introduced into the Marvel film universe until after the Avengers sequel. So the villains creation will need to be rewritten.
