'Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D' TV Show Trailer: Will Robert Downey Jr., Iron Man, Make an Appearance on ABC Show? (WATCH)

Marvel's "Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. pilot debuted at the Television Critics Association press tour on Monday, showing off a few key facts about the show. Some of the cast and crew were there, including creator Joss Whedon, to answer questions. The biggest burning question of all seemed to be "What about Th Avengers?"

After its initial debut at Comic-Con, fans of the series already knew that "How I Met Your Mother" actress Cobie Smulders reprises her role from "The Avengers" as agent Maria Hill. Marvel has successfully combined four super hero film franchises into one single universe. As a result, characters can pop up in any place at any time. In fact, Smulders will also have a role in the second Captain America film "The Winter Soldier." This has led IGN and other fans of the series to speculate on who else from the films will join the agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. on the small screen.

Whedon, while speaking to the press, said he'd be willing to make a call to several of the Avengers team if he thought it was a great idea for the show and a good idea for the actors.

"I'm not going to go begging," he said. "I'm not going to use up fvors I need for The Avengers 2. As I say, the DNA of te show is the show. Those guys would be a delightful bonus, but we're not building our arcs around them."

In other words, he wants to make it clear that, although the show takes place in the Marvel Universe, it is an entity all its own. The characters in the show are not going to be waiting around for Iron Man or Thor to bail them out of trouble. However, this does not rule out any potential cameos. In the event one of the super-star super heroes returns, Whedon said they'd be treated like rock stars on and off camera.

"The good thing about the universe is that they're superstars in that universe. So if they show up, if they overbalanced it slightly, that would actually make sense. That's how people would react to them in the universe of the show, so I don't think that's a problem," Whedon said. "I do think it's a problem if you have them too regularly and people are just wondering, 'When do I get to see a movie star again?' Instead of concentrating on these guys."
