WWE superstar Alexander Rusev proposed to his manager and real-life girlfriend, WWE Diva Lana, in September, TMZ reported. The couple confirmed their secret engagement on a recent live WWE event, where writers for the pro wrestling entertainment company wrote their romance into the storyline for the live broadcast after news of their engagement broke.
The Bulgarian Brute proposed to his Ravishing Russian in September at their home in Nashville, according to TMZ. The proposal took place in the couple's pool, and Rusev reportedly caught the sweet moment on camera.
But an ongoing storyline within the WWE universe separated Rusev from his manager, with Lana dating another WWE superstar, Dolph Ziggler, and Rusev rebounding with WWE Diva Summer Rae, Sports World News reported. The WWE was forced to break kayfabe (the staged events that happen within the WWE universe that are supposed to appear real and not staged) and bring them back together in the ring. The company acknowledged their engagement, and Lana gave an official confirmation with an interview on the WWE official website, in character.
"It's very obvious Rusev proposed to me," Lana told the WWE. "If you watched Rusev and Summer, Rusev has always loved me. He was just so devastated about me picking Dolph that he went with Summer to make me jealous. But at the end of the day, we know we're good for each other."
