Miley Cyrus gave another killer performance on the "Today" show. The 20-year-old singer made a special appearance on Oct. 7 to talk to Matt Lauer about her latest album "Bangerez," her feud with Sinead O'Connor and her infamous VMA performance with Robin Thicke.
The singer also performed her latest singles "We Can't Stop" and "Wrecking Ball."
She started her musical set off with her summer party song and of course threw in some twerking. Dressed in white short shorts and a white crop-top the singer replaced the giant foam finger and dancing teddy bears from her VMA performance with dancing rainbows, flowers and mushrooms.
The performance was still high energy and nothing less than what people expect from Cyrus. She finished the set with a powerful performance of "Wrecking Ball."
Cyrus sat down with Lauer and opened up about her VMA performance. In an interview with MTV Cyrus revealed that the performance was a "strategic hot mess" and her goal was to do something shocking that would have people talking.
It's been a month since Cyrus twerked her way through the MTV performance and the subject is still a hot-button issue so of course Lauer would ask about it.
"Did you go there and say I'm going to do something... some people are going to love it, some people are going to be offended by it but people will be talking about it the next morning. Was that your plan?" Lauer asked.
"I don't ever really plan to offend people but sometimes that just happens because I think people, they're not open to what they don't understand but that's why what I'm doing is for my fans because they're all really young so they understand what I'm doing," she explained.
She said the performance went exactly as planned and has no regrets about doing it. Cyrus told Lauer that despite what people might say about her she isn't doing the overly-sexual performances to get attention but simply because that's who she is.
She also talked about her feud with Sinead O'Connor. The war of words started after Cyrus told Rolling Stone magazine that her "Wrecking Ball" video was inspired by the Irish singer's video for "Nothing Compares 2 U."
O'Connor responded by writing the former Hannah Montana star an open letter advising her to stop "pimping" herself for the music industry. Cyrus responded on Twitter by comparing O'Connor's battle with mental illness to Amanda Bynes.
"I think she is an incredible artist and I was inspired by her for my 'Wrecking Ball' video which started the whole thing," Cyrus said. "I don't know how someone can start a fight with someone that's saying I respect you and love what you did. That was crazy but I'm a big fan of hers, so it doesn't really matter."
