A New York man has created his own sovereign nation on a remote four-acre piece of land in Utah, which he has named Zaqistan.
Zaq Landsberg's sovereign nation comes with its own flag donning yellow and red colors, authenticate-looking passports and a big robot that acts as a guard at its border patrol gate. It even has its own official unofficial motto: "Something from nothing."
"The conceptual goal is I want it to become a real country," said Landsberg, who also serves as his country's president, according to the Associated Press. "I mean, that goal is not going to happen. It's impossible, but going through the motions, (I'm) trying to make that happen."
Landsberg was in awe at how detached the area was when he bought it a decade ago. The area is 15 miles away from a concrete road and 60 miles from the nearest town.
He finds the area alluring, though he also admits that it is tough and barren. "Out here, it's not that crazy of an idea to have your own little spot, and to do your own thing and to have your own space and the privacy to do that," he said, according to USA Today.
Landsberg is indecisive about relaying his country's exact location because he is afraid people might get lost in trying to look for it.
Landsberg has visited his country several times since he bought it and during his visits he often puts a bit of work into it. "Over the years, it's been a hassle. But I've kind of grown to like it."
He is well aware that Zaqistan is not a legitimate country, but he is interested in how far he can go in pushing the boundaries for sovereignty and land, according to KSL.com.
