Pittsburgh Steelers running back Le'Veon Bell injured his knee against the Cincinnati Bengals Sunday, and the team is reportedly optimistic about the status of the ACL and hope that it is just an MCL injury, according to Pro Football Talk.
There have been multiple reports that the injury looks to be severe and that there is a serious concern their star running back will be out for a lengthy absence, according to Jason La Canfora of CBS Sports. Bell was carted off the field after his right knee was bent backwards after being tackled near the sideline.
Bell was catching a pass from Ben Roethlisberger on the play, as the Steelers quarterback made his first start since injuring his MCL six games ago. The Steelers lost in a tight-fought game with Cincinnati (16-10), but they may have lost something much more in Bell.
The Steelers running back is arguably the best at his position in the league and has already rushed for 511 yards in six games this season. Bell isn't just a power runner for the Steelers, as he has 22 catches for 123 receiving yards on the season.
The Steelers will clearly miss Bell, but will need running back DeAngelo Williams to step up in his absence. The Steelers are optimistic that Bell didn't tear his ACL, but they will need to continue to contend for the playoffs for his return to have any significance.
